Let's remember – each vehicle registered in Poland (except for vintage vehicles) must have a valid third party liability insurance policy, regardless of, whether it is technically efficient and moves on the road, or not. So even unused, it still costs us. And due to the lack of continuity in paying contributions, we may have serious problems. The penalty for the lack of third party liability can be as high as 3000 zloty! Most often it exceeds the value of the old car several times.
Sale and scrapping
The easiest way to get rid of the hassle of owning an unwanted car would be to sell it. The easiest way is to take advantage of type offers: "I will buy absolutely everyone". Maybe we won't get an exorbitant price, but the only condition for the purchase is to have a permanent registration certificate. If this is e.g.. stopped by the police, finding a buyer is virtually impossible. The most frequently purchased cars are repaired and sold. Sometimes the dishonest buyer is mainly concerned with the registration certificate. He wants to stamp the number of our car on the stolen car. We can protect ourselves against the possible consequences of this situation. Enough, that we will write the contract on the day of sale and we will make sure, to include vehicle data, but also the date and time of the transaction. We should never be persuaded to write a contract with a different date, or blank. If a day later someone sells a car with our numbers, we can prove, that it happened without our knowledge and participation.
When we can't sell the car, it's best to unregister them. However, they must be scrapped beforehand. They are entitled to issue certificates of withdrawal from the vehicle (by the voivodeship office) just some of the junkyards. To delete a vehicle with a retained registration document, we must apply to the communication department for a certificate confirming its registration.
Unfortunately, we have to bear certain costs when deregistering. The formalities at the office should not exceed 10 zloty. Scrapping fees vary. In some cases, the car is accepted free of charge, and in other places the cost will not be more than 200 zloty. Most often, a scrapped vehicle is technically inefficient, so we have to use a tow truck. Such a service, depending on the distance, will cost from 250 into 800 zloty.
If we have a broken and unused car, let us not hesitate to get rid of it. Let us not be deceived, that someday we will repair it and we will continue to drive. Let us try to sell or scrap this unusable property, to avoid fees and hassles in the future.
