Replacing the toothed belt
■ Disconnect the battery from the vehicle's electrical system.
■ Remove the air filter.
■ Remove the cover from the clutch housing.
■ Remove the V-belt.
■ Remove the lower and upper toothed belt covers.
■ Unscrew the camshaft housing cover.
■ Remove the vacuum pump.
■ Turn the crankshaft clockwise to “make it right” setting marks on flywheel and injection pump. The crankshaft can be turned with a wrench placed on the pulley bolt or by rolling the car with it turned on 4. running.
■ Piston 1. cylinder goes to position ZZ. when the valves have passed 4 cylinder. In this setting, it will be possible to replace the vacuum pump with a special tool Opel * KM-537. The camshaft must then be stationary.
■ Remove the bolt securing the gear to the camshaft.
■ Loosen the bolts securing the coolant pump.
■ With the Opel-KM tool -509, tilt the pump counterclockwise and release the toothed belt. Alternator can also be disassembled and the pump can be tilted with a flat spanner 41 Mm.
■ Disconnect the right front engine support from the crossbar.
■ Move the engine away from the crossmember. Remove the toothed belt from the pulleys and pass between the crossbar and the engine mounting.
■ Check before attaching the belt, whether the alignment signs did not change their position.
■ Pull the new belt between the crossbar and the engine support and fit it on the gears.
■ Attach the engine to the crossmember.
■ Tighten the toothed belt.
■ Tighten the bolts securing the coolant pump to the torque 8 N m m.
■ Check position of alignment marks and correct if necessary.
■ Holding the camshaft with an open-end wrench, tighten the gear bolt (tightening torque 90 N m m).
■ Check valve timing.
■ Check injection pump delivery start.
■ Install the vacuum pump.
■ Screw on the camshaft housing cover.
■ Fit lower and upper toothed belt covers.
■ Position the V-belt and tighten it,
■ Install the clutch housing cover.
■ Install the air filter and connect the battery.
