After removing the timing cover, turn the crankshaft this way, to "rip" the alignment marks on both gears. If there is no such need, still in the repair, the position of the crankshaft and camshaft should not be changed, so as not to obstruct the subsequent assembly. Mark the outside with a paint on the outside of the chain, because the same tensioning direction must be maintained when using it again. Unscrew the two bolts securing the tensioner and carefully remove it Unscrew the bolt securing the pinion to the camshaft, immobilizing the wheel with a suitable tool. Remove the key from the crankshaft journal and slide the two gears off without the use of tools. Remove the chain together with the wheels. Assess the degree of wear of the removed elements. Wheels and chain must be replaced in a complete set, even if only one component shows excessive wear.
When assembling, the gears without a chain are first fitted, to check the position of the markings Then remove the gear from the camshaft and put the chain on the crankshaft gear and the removed gear. The upper gear slides back over the camshaft journal and the protruding pin. Check wheel alignment again and insert a wedge into the crankshaft wheel. Install the mounting bolt and washer into the camshaft and tighten to the torque 40 Nm. Slide the oil slinger onto the crankshaft pin, open side facing forward.
The rest of the assembly steps are like this, as when replacing the tensioner and the timing cover.
