Checking the crankshaft
Engine crankshaft 1300 Turbo is nitrided. If the shaft journals show signs of wear, it should be regenerated. You need to pay attention, that the shaft must be surface hardened after grinding.
■ When the shaft has no visible signs of wear, control measurements should be taken:
- the ovality of the main and crank pins may be maximally 0,02 Mm; after grinding, the tolerance must be observed 0.005 Mm,
- the conicity of the journals may be maximum 0,005 Mm,
- shifting the axes of the main journals - maximum 0,025 Mm, and the crank pins - maximum 0,125 Mm,
- all journals must be machined to the same repair dimension.
■ If only the bushings are to be replaced, it is necessary to determine the clearance in the bearings using the “Plastigage”. The play on main journals must be 0.028…0,069 Mm. More play can be assumed for a competing car, provided, that there will be the same play on all supports.
■ At fifth main spigot (on the clutch side) the crankshaft has half-rings for locating the axial play. The clearance value must be within 0.055…0.265 Mm. Rings of a suitable thickness are commercially available. The rings on both sides of the crank must be the same thickness with the grooves facing the shaft.
■ The crankshaft is installed lubricated with oil. The rear surface of the inserted shells should remain dry.
