Gearbox sealing
Gearbox leaks may appear in the following places: at the sealing ring the speedometer drive, at the cover gasket of the internal gear shift, at the rear cover gasket, at the gasket of the side cover of the main gear, as well as the shaft seals in the gearbox housing. These leaks can be repaired with the gearbox installed in the car.
The gearbox shaft seal rings are replaced as follows.
■ Raise the front of the car and remove both front wheels.
■ On both sides, unscrew the outer constant velocity joints from the steering knuckles.
■ Use the tools on the page to press out the driveshaft 114 Do not let the driveshaft drop.
■ Remove the sealing rings from the side cover and from the gearbox housing, using the appropriate Kukko puller and support
The new sealing rings are pressed into the seats with the Opel KM-446 special tool, to be flush with the outer surface of the housing and cover. Each time a new securing ring should be inserted into the winding groove of the joint. Press the shaft into the gearbox housing, until the locking ring "clicks" into place. Use a screwdriver to help yourself, so as not to overstretch the securing ring. Attach the homocmetic joint to the steering knuckle. Install the front wheels and top up the transmission fluid level.
