There is no doubt, that the stylists' task is all the more difficult, the more successful the predecessor of the designed car was. Creators of B segment models – Toyota Yaris i Fiata Punto – they had a hard nut to crack. Both Yaris, and the first generation Punto appealed to Europeans. They received the Car of the Year title and were selling well. Fiat was styled by the famous Giorgetto Giugiaro, and Toyota, the little-known Greek cartoonist Sotiris Kovos. Italians also introduced the Punto II stylized in Fiat's Centro Stile… this car was certainly not an artwork. The conclusion was simple – in the case of a new Punto, it is necessary to return to Giugiaro. The master of design did not disappoint – The Granda Punto looks great. The result was an extremely simple car, clean line, whose dynamic front could easily adorn the sporty Maserati (also most often drawn by Giugiaro). This is due to the lights set at a large angle and the thoroughbred air intake divided by a beam. The windshield pillars were tilted so sharply, that the triangular windows are integrated into the corners. The bodyshell has a decidedly sloping rear waist and an almost vertical rear wall with high-positioned lights. All in all, he has a typically sporty character.
For a change, the new Yaris is not associated with such character. Apparently its creators wanted it, to be an evolutionary development of the current model, and its shape identified with massiveness, safety and reliability. Reliability may not even be mentioned, because every car of this brand is identified with it. The silhouette with the raised line of the bonnet is bulky, it has a fully extended cabin and a deep plunging bottom line of the side windows. The headlights on the hood are the real gems, the design of the rear is a weak point. Yaris, however, creates a positive impression.
Giorgetto Giugiaro (born in 1938 r 'in Garessio in the Province of Cuneo) from 1952 r. studied arts and technical sciences in Turin. From the age of 17 he worked as a designer for Fiat, and in 1965 r. became the head of the body company Ghia. Three years later, he founded the prestigious design and styling office Italdesign. He was the creator of many key projects for the global automotive industry, winner of numerous awards, in 1999 of the year he became the "Car Stylist of the Century”. Although he is no longer the managing director of the Italdesign-Giugiaro group, operating in Moncalieri, near Turin, certainly still contributes to subsequent projects signed with the Giugiaro inscription. many cars over the last several decades, that came from his hand, was more or less successful, and some remain automotive milestones.
