The double-disc clutch is used in large cars,
in which a large friction surface is needed to transmit high torque. This surface depends on the dimensions of the clutch plate friction linings. In a double-disc clutch, the transmission of torque can be twice as large as in a single-disc clutch, with the same dimensions of the clutch plate and the same pressure springs. The double disc clutch consists of the same parts as the single disc clutch, with the only difference, that it has two clutch plates with four friction linings and two pressure plates. A clutch of this type m. in. it is used in ZIS cars .
