Checking and adjusting the timing setting
■ Remove the air filter.
■ Remove the air filter.
■ Remove the camshaft housing cover.
■ Remove the clutch housing cover.
■ Remove the upper and lower toothed belt covers.
■ Check the toothed belt tension,
■ Adjust the piston by turning the crankshaft 1. cylinder in position ZZ The notch on the flywheel will then align with the blade in the clutch housing. At the same time, valves must pass each other 4. cylinder. In this setup, it also has to ... play” alignment mark on injection pump gear with mark on pump support.
■ Remove the vacuum pump,
■ Insert the special tool Opel-KM-537 to block the camshaft in place of the vacuum pump. This will stop the piston in position ZZ.
■ If the tool cannot be inserted without tension, adjust the position of the camshaft and its toothed wheel. To do this, remove the KM-537 tool again.
■ Loosen the camshaft gear, holding the shaft with a spanner. This wrench is inserted between the lobes of the intake and exhaust valves 4. cylinder.
■ Block the camshaft with the KM-537 tool. While doing so, turn the shaft with an open-ended spanner, so that the tool can be inserted without jamming.
■ Check the position of all alignment marks and correct if necessary.
■ The offset of the setting marks on the handwheel may be max. ±1,0 mm, in relation to the center of the incision.
■ Holding the camshaft with a spanner, tighten to torque 90 N m toothed wheel fixing bolt.
■ Recheck the character setting. To do this, turn the crankshaft o 90 and bring the plunger back 1. cylinder to position ZZ.
■ Install the vacuum pump.
■ Check the toothed belt tension,
■ Check injection pump delivery start,
■ Reverse order of steps to follow.
