Three types of gearboxes are used in motor vehicles, differing in the method of control. These are:
• ordinary gearboxes, where you choose the right gear (running) and its activation is made by the driver;
• semi-automatic gearboxes, in which the driver selects the desired gear, while its activation is performed by an automaton;
• automatic gearboxes, in which both the selection of the most favorable gear for given driving conditions, and its activation is automatic.
The least complicated, so also the cheapest are ordinary gearboxes, therefore they are widely used in popular passenger cars and in many trucks and buses.
Ordinary gearboxes allow for gradual shifting of gears by sequentially engaging pairs of gears, with different numbers of teeth, that is, with a different ratio.
