Types of gearboxes.
The gearbox used in cars with internal combustion piston engines allows not only to change the torque, but also: obtaining the appropriate rotational speed of the drive shaft, needed to obtain the desired speed of the car; reverse movement of the car by reversing the direction of rotation of the propeller shaft; disconnecting the engine from the car's propeller shaft by placing the gear lever in the neutral "neutral" position”.
All gearboxes currently used in cars can be divided according to their design features into gradual and stepless.
