Adjusting the steering rod. The measurement is made with an instrument placed with its tips against the edge of the rim (at the height of the axis of rotation of the wheels) front first, and then on the back. In an unladen FSO Syrena, the distance of the rim edges at the front should be greater by 1,5-3 mm from the respective distances and back. As already mentioned, the toe-in of the front wheels can be adjusted by changing the length (lengthening or shortening) transverse rod on the steering linkage. In the Polski Fiat 125P car, clamping sleeves are used to adjust the steering rods. After loosening the clamps, the length of the crossbars can be adjusted, by turning the sleeves. After final adjustment of the rods, the cuts of the sleeves should align with the cuts of the caliper.
