The concept of the driving force on wheels and the resistance to motion of the car.
The movement of the car is achieved by transmitting power from the engine to the road wheels. Engine torque via drive mechanisms (couplings, gearbox, propeller shaft as well as final drive and differential) is transmitted on the driveshaft and the associated road wheels, which gives rise to circumferential forces on the circumference of the driving wheels. These forces create the driving force, moving the whole car forward, in results of that, that there are adhesion forces between the wheels and the road surface to prevent wheel slippage. The driving force causing the translational motion of the vehicle is needed to overcome resistance to motion, that oppose the movement of the vehicle.
