Winter tires began to appear on the Polish market sometime in the early 1990s. They were often used in used cars imported to us, and bought in the fall season – winter or early spring. We were then used to the chronic shortage of tires in stores, and then suddenly we were informed about winter tires. Producers started to advertise their products. The automotive press also contributed to the spread of winter tire fashion, both illustrated and everyday.
In the first period, winter tires were started to be bought by owners of more expensive cars, over time, they were also accepted by mid-class vehicle owners. Currently, the cost of a set of winter tires for a mid-range car is from several hundred to about a thousand zlotys, of course, with more branded products and larger sizes, it can also be more expensive (and sometimes a lot). Who, however, once drove the car on winter tires, this one knows what the difference.
Is it worth buying winter tires? Certainly yes, but if anyone has doubts it, although it is quite an expense, however, it should be treated as a very sensible investment. We drive on winter tires basically from mid-November to the beginning of April, so about half a year. The summer tires then rest, so they are not subject to wear. Thus, the cost of winter tires (of course preferably with rims) is more rational. One more note…
There are still many used tire outlets in Poland. As in any industry, so there are leaders in this. It is they who are characterized by excellent consulting and a kind of customer education. Before the fall-winter season, many less wealthy drivers replaced their balding all-season tires with winter ones., still in good condition, though used. Of course, new tires are best, but also properly selected, when used, they will fulfill their function if used reasonably.
