Carbon storage control and temperature measurements. During the first 3 months from the moment a new coal shipment is stored, it is necessary to observe the heaps and mark the places on a daily basis, in which symptoms of coal heating itself were noticed. These symptoms are: characteristic smell, ash and sulfur raids, emergence of water patches or wet stains on the surface, which disappear when exposed to the sun, quick drying at the points of possible self-heating of rainwater (snow melting). Regardless of that, the temperature of fuel dumps should be measured: after 2 weeks from the start of storage to 3 months after the end of storage - once a 3 days, after 3 months from the last coal deposit - once a week, after 6 months ,from the time of the last coal deposit - once every 30 days. When a certain critical temperature, parts of the pile are kept within a few days in the range of 50-60 ° C, it is time to discover this place and transfer the coal to another place (not called) landfills. The layers of transferred coal should not be thicker than 0,5 m. Do not pour water on places suspected of spontaneous combustion in order to avoid the spread of spontaneous combustion.. Ways, the place and accuracy of temperature measurements is determined by, strictly Polish Norm. In the coal storage card, precisely defined by the Polish Standard, any change in the amount of carbon and the results of the temperature measurements should be recorded. The entries in the card are kept by the warehouse manager, by storing it in the warehouse office.
