Play in rack gear. In vehicles equipped with rack and pinion gears, the steering gear play is adjusted by turning the eccentric bushing, in which the gear shaft is mounted, connected to the steering shaft. In the event of excessive play in individual joints of the steering linkage, in principle, these joints should be replaced with new ones. Sometimes it is possible to some extent to eliminate the play between the cups and the ball pin by tightening the screw plug, pressing down on the cup, as well as sometimes by turning the ball pin 90 °. In the articulated joint of the steering rods, the play can be reduced by tightening the castle nut, which should then be secured with a cotter pin against spontaneous unscrewing while driving.
