Ferrari's experiments with multi-wheeled ships were short lived. Spring 1977 year of Niki Lauda
and Carlos Reutemann tested a 312T6 with twin wheels on one rear axle in a Fiorano – model of the pre-war Auto Union "Bergrennwagen" (i.e. a car adapted to mountain racing). The six wheels were of equal size, that is, the double rear wheels generated much less resistance than a standard racer. After a series of rear suspension defects and the crash of the prototype by Reutemann, work on the six-wheeler was abandoned. Anyway, the Ferrari 312T6 would not be allowed for racing anyway because of too much width.
