Xsara was a brilliant answer to the longings for the times, when the innovative and stylistically bold Citroen sold on the trunk. However, not only the beautiful Claudia owes Xsara her success. Perfectly studied body line, an interesting and ergonomic interior solution, economical engines working with high culture. Similarly to the Megane line, sales of cars with the Renault badge have been revived, so the youngest Citroën was the driving force behind the concern's profits. It also grows the family and using good role models, proposes various engines, equipment, three-, five-door, combi boiler, single-body "Picasso" version and sports coupe.
Sports car is still a peculiarity on our roads – as it seems - perhaps interest only a few, rather young drivers. Our test Xsara Coupe VTS, however, was watched by many people of all ages. The golden metallic color of the Naissant Jaune was eye-catching, and the muscular, shapely silhouette suggested more power hidden under the hood.
At first glance, the Xsara Coupe VTS can be distinguished from a regular three-door by aluminum 15-inch rims, ni-skoprofilowych, wider tires and spoilers at the front and rear. The fog lights also look down on the front apron below the bumper. Xsara is also shorter than the sisters. Central lock let in and we know straight away, that we are in a sports car. Leather sports steering wheel with radio remote control buttons, leather gearshift arm, aluminum gas pedal and comfortable, keeping passengers in turns, seats are attributes of cars with greater temperament. There is usually only so much space in such cars, as far as the shorter body allows. We notice with surprise, that we can invite two adults to the rear seat without worrying about the comfort of traveling. The car is more spacious than its class competitors. Although it is registered as five people, we advise against long journeys with full passengers. It's more of a car for two plus luggage. However, four people will certainly fit, especially since the contoured rear seats provide additional leg room for people seated in the narrower rear section. The asymmetrically divided sofa allows you to expand the luggage compartment as you like. The advantage of the Xsara Coupe is the roomy trunk, which in sports cars is usually small, just over a two-liter trunk behind the passengers' backs. There is a trunk here 408 l, and after folding the seats it will fit 1190 l. The practical lashing net keeps your luggage in good condition on sharp bends, and a handy handle inside will not allow us to get our hands dirty when closing. We owe such a large trunk to the transfer of the spare wheel to the basket under the chassis, anyway, as in other versions. In the Xsara Coupe, as in its less dynamic sisters, we find enough compartments: lockable on the door, in the shelf in front of the passenger, and under his armchair, there are also pockets in the backrests of the front seats. Quality of materials, of which the cockpit and upholstery are made is flawless – velvet, Alcantara.
Much good has been said about the excellent ergonomics and clarity of the Xsara's cockpit, only inconvenience: horn button on one of the steering column levers, and electric windows control keys in the center console. The charm of the designed interior convinced us, that in the Citroen concern they can combine good taste with modernity and a sense of functionality.
